The leader of the aggrieved contestants, Isa Yahya Zarewa, who is a onetime senator, said they decided to leave APC over sheer injustice meted on them. Addressing newsmen after the meeting with all the contestants at his residence in Monday, Mr Zarewa, who contested for Kano South Senatorial District, stated that leaving APC was the best solution to all of them.
He lamented that they could not stay in a party where their political future is bleak, adding that they had since notified their wards, local and state chapters of the party of their decision.
According to him, all their complaints to the National Appeal Committee of APC over non conduct of primary elections in most of their constituencies went to deaf ears. He lamented that they were left to waste their time and money, shuttling from Kano to Abuja without their pleas being considered.
“Myself and over 300 other contestants have resigned our membership of APC and we have since notified our Wards, local and State Government party offices of our decision.
This is because nothing has been done on the outcries of injustice meted out on us. “When we were treated badly following non conduct of primacy elections into more specifically Senate and House of Reps seats in Kano, we filed an appeal to the National APC Appeal Committee but nothing was done.
“Rather we were allowed to only waste our times and money while in reality there were no primary elections conducted at our various local governments, and to us going to the court will not help matters, so the only options left to us is going out of the party,” he said.
Although, he did not reveal the party they are defecting to, Mr Zarewa said they would soon announce their destination, alongside their thousands of supporters.
The aggrieved aspirants, drawn from all the 44 local government areas of the state, vowed to unseat the APC in the 2019 general elections in Kano.
