Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in a £62million summer swoop for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, according to reports.

The former Barcelona man has been linked with a big-money move away from the Bundesliga recently, and it now seems he could be heading to England.

ESPN report that both United and Chelsea are keen to bring him to the Premier League, while a return to the Nou Camp has also been mooted.

If Bayern got their way though, the 27-year-old would not be going anywhere, as sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic tries desperately to keep hold of his man.

Bayern have a huge amount of midfielders and need to offload some before the window shuts, but it appears Alcantara is not top of the exit list

'Of course we are planning with him,' Salihamidzic recently told Suddeutsche Zeitung. 'It will be an interesting battle for places with nine midfielders.'

It is understood Alcantara would command a huge fee as he enters the prime years of his career, and Kicker report that €70m (£62m) is the price tag on his head.

That could potentially rule out Barcelona, who are reluctant to shell out so much for a former player, leaving Chelsea and United as two viable options.

United boss Jose Mourinho admitted on Tuesday that he wishes to bring in two more players before the window shuts, while Maurizio Sarri is currently overseeing an overhaul following his arrival in west London.

Since moving to Bayern Munich in 2013, Alcantara has won five Bundesliga titles and has enjoyed two German Cup triumphs.
