barcelona have made a late €40m (£35.7m) bid to sign Bordeaux winger Malcom, which has caused his transfer to Roma to stall.

The 21-year-old was due in Rome on Monday evening ahead of his medical but has failed to board his flight. Roma had earlier announced the deal was agreed.

It comes after Chelsea have rejected a £65million offer for Willian from Barcelona. It was the third bid made for the Brazilian midfielder.Willian is said to be keen but new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri wants to keep him - and with the prospect of having to pay up to £70m for a 29-year-old, Barca look to have turned to a younger and cheaper option

that a deal potentially rising to €36million (£32m) with bonuses had been settled on by Bordeaux and Roma for Malcom.

That was followed by a message from Bordeaux's official Twitter account which read: 'FC Girondins de Bordeaux informs you that an agreement has been reached, subject to the signature of the administrative documents, with AS Roma for the transfer of Malcom.'

Roma also took to social media to declare: 'AS Roma can confirm that the club has reached an agreement with FC Girondins de Bordeaux for the transfer of Malcom, subject to the player completing a medical and agreeing personal terms.'
